Literacy Council of Grant County
I am coming to the Literacy Council to improve my English and for assistance with getting my U.S. citizenship. I have lived in the U.S. for six years and speak some English. In order to become a citizen, I need improvement in English for the naturalization test. I also need better English skills to better function in my new country. The Literacy Council is helping greatly by providing ESL classes. With their help, I am confident I will have no trouble obtaining citizenship.
I started coming to the Literacy Council in August 2006 after trying to get my GED on my own. I met Jessica Armistead when she was putting up fliers advertising the Literacy Council. After working with Jessica for three months, I got a nighttime job and had to stop going. I was then laid off from my job, so I decided to return to the Literacy Council and continue working towards my GED. I started working with David Kroeker. Since working with David, I have studied math, including fractions, decimals, percentages and Algebra. I am currently studying reading in order to sharpen both my vocabulary and reading skills. Coming to the Literacy Council ahs increased my self-esteem and is helping prepare me to be the person I want to be when I retire.
My literacy skills have gotten better since I starte going to the Literacy Council. I want to get my GED because you need to have an education to get through life. I want go to nursing school and get a better paying job. My math and language skills improve more every day. I thank all of my teachers. Thank you for helping me get through life. Kirti Patel I found a very good English teacher named David at the Literacy Council of Grant County. He teaches me English and even how to drive a car! I speak English slowly, so he speaks slowly and helps me understand. We read stories from a book and I can now understand them. He gives me homework and this also helps me learn. I need continued help and I’m glad he is giving it to me.
