Betty Matthews

Ms. Betty Matthews is a lifelong resident of Dallas County. She has two children.  She works faithfully as a tutor at the Dallas County Literacy Council.  Although she is very busy, she always takes time for students. The students enjoy her, and often show their gratitude in many ways. She has been a faithful volunteer for the past seven years.

Isolea Cranford

Isolea is one of our most successful students becasue of her sincere dedication. Isolea works at a local clothing store, where she steam presses clothing. She feels that it is very important to have the literacy council available to assist people who want to increase their literacy skills. She also said “she would not be where she is today, had not been for the literacy council”. She is so thankful for the literacy council and for all the help she has received. UPDATE: Isolea is a wonderful student; she is devoted to her lessons. She is so willing to learn and that is one of the greatest things about her. In her spare time she takes care of a young boy, while his mother works. She is one of the best cheerleaders we have at Dallas County Literacy Council.

Ceressa Owens

I am Isolea’s Literacy Tutor. I have been tutoring Isolea for seven years. I can truly say she is a dedicated student because she wants to learn everything and I truly mean everything! She shared a story about her life while growing up. She said she had so many siblings that her mother just could not give her the education that she needed. It made me think about how blessed I am to have received an education.

There is a young lady, in her community that was in need of childcare for her baby. Isolea volunteered to take care of her baby while she worked. She feels that everybody needs someone, in their time of need. She knows that is why the literacy council has helped her. If everyone would think like Isolea, what a beautiful world it would be.
